This photograph was inspired by a sense of connection between past and present. It begins with Robert Falcon Scott’s 1902 Discovery Hut, a monument to early exploration, and pans toward modern-day McMurdo Station—bridging over a century of human presence on the Ice. Arcing above it all is the heart of the Milky Way, with a surprise appearance of aurora activity, bringing a touch of the sublime to an already humbling scene. Taken during Operation Dark Sky (As many outdoor lights turned off as possible) June 1st 2025 is composed of 216 exposures with a near 300-degree field of view.
